Samsung, IBM, Infineon, Chartered, Freescale Extend Chip Cooperation
May 25, 2007
As a follow-up to an Asia Express dated September 1, 2006, the alliance of Samsung, IBM, Infineon, Chartered, and Freescale announced on May 23 to further their existing cooperation on chip development, moving from the current 45nm to 32nm CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) technology. Now through 2010, the five companies will synchronize their manufacturing processes at IBM's 300-millimeter fab in East Fishkill, New York. Via the joint efforts, the alliance aims to reduce costs and deliver advanced, high-performance chips for use in various products, such as mobile devices and supercomputers.
